There is a growing realization that VCT, for example mental and bodily maltreatment, abondonment and sexual abuse, can be the cause of psychiatric and behavioral problems in people with mild intellectual disabilities (IQ 50-85). PTSS symptoms, attachment issues and a distorted neurobiological development all play a significant role in symptoms that arise at a later age. At the conference we will discuss how the standard-of-care treatment in a multidisciplined and intregral way can be applied in clinical practice for people with a mild intellectual disability.
This congress-day will offer you a lot of information for your daily treatment practice and also a creative inspiration. In what amount does early trauma appear and what are the effects? How can we use knowledge about brain development in practice? And what about knowledge about eraly trauma, attachment and mentalizing? Does EMDR treatment fit in treatment for people with mild intellectual disabilities? Is fase-focused treatment also an option? This subjects and more will be highlighted during the conference.
